#1 Practice - honestly. Get as many practice tests under your best. Get as many practice questions under your belt

#2 Rote Math - do rote math practice to get faster a calculations

#3 Reading - increase reading speed and ability to parse information

#4 Your style - figure out if pen+paper are best. If so, how to best use them? (What to write versus not write). Or a tablet on the side. Or your desktop

#5 track info - write things down. Keep track of what is there

#6 Objective - always remember what you're solving for

Ultimately, how you improve also matters, as well as figuring out what is slowing you down here as an individual (could be a range of factors that a coach can help you determine + address)

Hi there,

1) Can anyone explain to me in details what is the redrock study game

The Redrock Study is the new game that McKinsey launched at the end of February 2023. It involves 4 different sections and replaced Plant Defense.

2) What to expect

There are 4 phases now in the game.

  1. Investigation, where you have to collect information in a reaserch journal.
  2. Analysis, where you have to answer 3 (sometimes more) questions based on the information you collected.
  3. Report, where you have to summarize your finding.
  4. Cases, where you have to answer up to 10 case questions unrelated to the previous sections

3) How to manage my time between the 4 phases and give me some tips on the best way to solve it

I would recommend ensuring you have at least 1.5 minutes per question for the Case part. So far candidates had either 6 or 10 questions in that part, so you should finish the previous 3 phases accordingly.

If you want to prepare further, you can find below a video simulation with:

  • 23 videos showing how to crack the Ecosystem Game in less than 25 minutes (instead of the recommended 35), resist 25+ turns in the Plant Defense (instead of the minimum target of 15) and prepare for the 4 Phases of the new Redrock Study (including tips for the 10 cases)
  • Automated Excel with Formulas to build a food chain in the Ecosystem game in 13 minutes
  • PDF guide with all 6 possible games and how to crack each of them

You can check the video simulation at the following link (full disclosure, I am the author):

Hi there!

Lots and lots of useful advice below.

Aside from this, make sure you also leverage youtube to get several accounts of people actually playing the game.

This way you can catch different perspectives.

And if you have the luxury of time (i.e., the test is not due soon), work on developing the actual skills that the test looks for instead of practicing the test itself. This will ensure that you also perform well in future tests from other firms.

Best,
Cristian

Hello,  My advise for Redrock is to familiarize yourself with the game to make sure you're not baffled with how it works.

Also, be very quick as time is very limited and if you waste too much time on the first part you might not have enough time to go through all sections.

I've purchased Mconsulting prep material and is willing to give you access for half the price. Please let me know if interested by reaching out!

Hello,

I’d recommend looking into practice resources that simulate the Redrock study, so that you’re doing a mock test practice. I’ve heard great things about Coach Francesco’s materials and MConsultingPrep on this front.
