Hi there,
This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:
First of all, I would advise you to have a second look at the SHL test set since normally, there always is the solution displayed.
Secondly, from my perspective, there might be solely one correct option which is option E. The arrow is like the hour hand of a clock indicating the number of sides of the form.
In case you want a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare abstract reasoning tests, please feel free to contact me directly.
The answer posted above is incorrect - the correct answer is E.
Imagine the arrow as the hour hand on a clock. Its position corresponds to the number of sides in the shape (3 o’clock for the triangle, 1 o’clock for the ellipse since it has one side).
Thus the possibilities in the answers are B and E.
We eliminate B because it has a black dot in the center. That leaves E as the correct answer.
The number of black dots in the pattern alternates 2-1-4-1, which I would guess corresponds to an odd/even alternation. But they aren’t necessary to solve the problem correctly.

Cracking Oliver Wyman Numerical Reasoning Test - 8 Important Tips
Oliver Wyman, like many other consulting firms, uses a written online test as part of its selection process: the Numerical Reasoning Test. Compared to other problem-solving tests, this test is much more difficult and even considered as one of the most challenging tests in the application world. But don’t worry: with our tips and the right kind of preparation, you will be able to pass the test!
Probably the most popular form of online testing is the numerical reasoning format. It tests candidates ability to consume, digest, and manipulate numbers quickly.
Since the 90s employers have used numerical methods to assess candidates as it is a cost-effective way of reducing the applicant pool to a manageable number. It is also a quick way to gain an indication of whether the candidate has the fundamental skills to be able to do the job.
Many entry level jobs now require a basic level of numerical ability whether it is building spreadsheets or interpreting website traffic, the world is becoming increasingly more data-driven. This is because some of the most successful companies in the world, such as Amazon and Google, have successfully used data to fuel their impressive growth.
Even jobs that are creative at their core are becoming informed by numbers. Graphic designers are creating images with the aim of maximum social media engagement and sales man are tracking the email templates that generate the most replies.
