Prep guidance for MBB data science consulting interview for young professional

Hello! I am new to DS consulting - currently I work in tech/ecommerce field on marketing analytics with 2-3 years of experience, proficient with python, SQL and have working knowledge of basic probability, ML, and statistics analysis.

I am looking to switch to DS consulting sooner than later as I don't want to be stuck with marketing forever and I geniuenly want to work with different client profile.

Can anyone from MBB Data science field give me a quick run down on what should i prepare for the technical assessment and case interview? What questions would I be expecting? What are some of the ML topics/questions should I be preparing for the interview? Any sample questions and guidance would be helpful. Thank you!

Hi there

Most of the projects I did in McK in my last two years were DS related, but I was a generalist, not part of the DS track itself.

So while I can confirm that they are actively looking for people and giving them exposure to lots of industries, I can't actually give you a run down of the technical assessment.

I suggest two sources of insight.

One - have an actual convo with the recruiter. They are always straightforward about the structure of the recruitment process. They genuinely want you to succeed and to prepare for the interview.

Two - reach out to DS people within MBB and get an understanding of how the recruitment process went for them, how they prepared and what they feel made them successful. These convos are going to be priceless.

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • I would highly advise you to reach out to both current data science consultants and datat science recruiters at your target firms to inquire about this in detail.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

My suggestion is that you have a look at Glassdoor, as they tend to have examples of questions asked during the interviews.
