Hi, I have a question, what is the difference between fellow business analyst and business analyst intern at McKinsey, are there significant different, I have heard that they are almost the same, but I see on the internet that compensation can differ significantly, any idea?
Position difference
Hi there
Fellow business analyst is a full time role. In most geographies, ‘fellow’ means that you are part of the programme where you spend 2-3 years at McKinsey, then go for a PhD and when you return you are directly an Associate (but I would check this directly with the recruiter to confirm it).
Business analyst intern is a limited time role - typically for 3-6 months with the possibility of turning into a full-time role of (fellow) business analysis. The compensation is typically lower here.
Adding here a link that goes deeper into the expectations from the consultant role:

Hi there,
First of all, I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:
- First of all, the difference is in its name: the first is a full-time position, the latter is an internship position.
- Moreover, other than that, as an intern, you will of course be treated as an equal team member.
You can find more on this topic here: Salaries in the consulting industry.
If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.
Best,

Fellows usually is an award (or agreement) to support a full-time course of study of qualified graduate students, as fellows receive financial support to focus on their graduate research and training without the requirement of service to the university.
In practice, they are business analysts coming from a different pool of candidates, whereas business analyst interns are… well, interns, which is a pre-business analyst position.
Hi there,
The difference is that one is an intern (as the name implies) and the other is a full-time role.
In terms of tasks, and responsibilities you can compare them. Similarly, for most regions, the salary is the same as well (pro-rated for the intern). The training and development you receive are also almost the same.
The main difference is that the internship usually lasts between 8 weeks and 6 months (usually around 10 weeks as a global average).
Cheers,
Florian
