Dear PrepLounge Coaches:
I am starting my position as a consultant at an MBB firm in a few weeks. I am considering hiring a coach to help me prepare with core consulting skills before I onboard, and also help me in my first 3 months (at least) into the job, to make sure I will be on track and excel in the role.
However, in the past I have worked with a few PrepLounge Coaches for the same requirement (I worked at another consulting firm), but the sessions were quite useless, unstructured, and low value-add. For instance, I mentioned that I want to work on storylining. And the session ended up as me talking through the slides, whereas the coach provided minor ad-hoc advice. These useless sessions made me question whether it is really helpful to hire a coach to guide me in my first few months.
What I aim for is structured, tailored, and impactful sessions. For instance, examining the slides that I made and give real time feedback, or giving me exercise to form storylines and discussing it in the next session. I am looking for practical sessions and resources, instead of theoretical and generic advice.
What would be your suggestion? If you have enriched experience helping consultants to excel in the role, feel free to advertise and briefly mention how you conduct the sessions.
Looking forward to your suggestions.
