McKinsey's application window typically closes for 2 years if you are rejected. However, given that you are considering withdrawing from the process (and for valid reasons), you can negotiate with the Talent team whether you can re-apply in 9-12 months. My guess is that there shouldn't be any issue if you formulate the context and the ask properly. 

As a next step, do schedule a call with the TA team (do not withdraw from the process by email before talking to the team). You need to explain, face to face (or on a video call) why you want to opt you and that you would be keen to reapply as soon as the circumstances get better. Once you get the broader greenlight from TA, send a thank you email to wrap this up nicely.

Q: If I email them to withdraw my app will I be able to reapply again 9-12 month from now? 

This should be feasible, however I would recommend to call instead of sending an email, and if they agree then send an email to thank them to keep proof of the agreement in writing.

Alternatively, you may ask if you may continue the process and if you may have a deferred start in case they extend an offer.

I'd recommend emailing the recruiting team to tell them that you've had a change in circumstances and won't be able to take a role with the firm this year and would like to withdraw. Talk through with them how you can remain on the system and how to start an application when you are ready.

I highly recommend you email/call them. Look to “defer” not withdraw. You can google/LinkedIn search their info.
