McKinsey Solve Game - Question on Time Taken

Hey everybody, I have recently finished the McKinsey Solve game and had a few questions.

1. I finished the Ecosystem section within ~10 minutes, and the math to keep each species alive checks out. Does finishing it quickly result in a higher score?

2. I finished the RedRock game with 5 minutes left, however, this section was more challenging and I am unsure about how well I did.

In conclusion, does finishing with time left increase or hurt my overall score?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

The most important is that you correctly answered the questions.

Assuming finishing early did not result in you rushing and therefore did not result in you getting questions wrong that you otherwise would have gotten right, then finishing early does not hurt.

Hi there!

It's unclear whether McKinsey uses speed in order to determine scoring. Empirically, I haven't noticed with my candidates a correlation between speed and pass rate, so I'd rather lean towards saying that there's no link.

What matters more is if the game is correctly navigated.

This, by the way, also applies to the actual case interviews. Quality and depth are way more important than speed, so always optimise for the former.

Best,
Cristian

Hi there,

The criteria of the score are not public, however the score depends on both (i) the final result and (ii) actions taken and timestamps during the game.

As a consequence, assuming you provide the correct results, most likely completing the game in less time has a positive impact on the final score. Still, I would not try to optimize for time but rather for the best possible answer.

Best,

Francesco

Hello,

To my knowledge, you are not scored on how quickly you answered the questions, just whether you answered correctly or not. Finishing with time left does not impact your scores in and of itself. It only matters insofar as you had sufficient time to calculate and evaluate your answers.
