Mckinsey Solve game no results

Hi! I applied to Mckinsey about 3 weeks ago and two days later got the McKinsey game solve email, did it the same day and well, i'm still waiting for results.

I already sent a mail last week to the recruiter and she told me that  “in the next weeks i will receive my results”.

Should I start to worry that they haven't sent me anything about solve game yet? or is this kinda normal?

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Alejandro,

You should “always” “worry” and never worry.

Meaning, your odds are always low for the #1 consulting firm in the world.

Therefore, you should always assume you don't have the interview and, as a result, apply to lots of other firms and stop obsessing about one. (by the way, this doesn't mean don't do case prep).

So, in a few weeks you'll have your result for McKinsey, and, if you're doing things right, you'll have lots of other interviews!

I would never hold my breath for any one firm - the odds are always higher that you won't get the job than that you will!

Hi Alejandro,

Q: Should I start to worry that they haven't sent me anything about solve game yet? or is this kinda normal?

The time to get a reply after the Solve game varies. It might be within 2 weeks but can also be longer. To my knowledge, there is no correlation between waiting time and outcome. I once helped a candidate who had to wait for almost 2 months and moved to the interviews.

Good luck!

Hi,

it is still well within the range that can be considered “typical”. Especially if the recruiter kinda gave you a timeline recently.

The ball is in their court now and you cannot speed up that process. What you can do though is to make sure that you are well prepared if you get an interview invite. And that you do everything within your power to also get interview invites from other companies.

A lot can go wrong with any given recruiting process (at any stage) so you need to have many irons in the fire to increase your chances of securing an offer.

Best of luck

Hi Alejandro,

You are not rejected until receiving an official no :)

Don't worry to much since there is no fixed timeline to share your Solve game results and next steps (this can happen within days or weeks).

In the meanwhile:

Happy to keep talking about this in private, just send me a message.

Best,

Alberto

Hi Alejandro!

No, don't get worried.

It's normal for it to take a few weeks in some cases.

And you need to understand that most offices have already ramped down at this point and are virtually closing for the winter holidays. Most likely you're going to hear back from them mid-Jan.

In the meantime, I'd recommend you start looking into other roles you might be interested in applying. This way you can diversify your risk a bit more.

Best,
Cristian

Same situation. And I know of a couple more people in this boat. Usually, McKinsey is known to get back within a week or two.

I think that the market situation multiplied by the proximity to the holiday season has a role to play here, the former being an important factor.

My Solve assessment went pretty well, so I doubt there's any correlation directly with your performance.

Good luck!
