Mckinsey Solve game
Hi there,
1) What does it mean when you are invited for the solve game by McKinsey and another person is not?
You passed the screening and the other person didn’t ;)
2) How soon will I get the results? and know the next steps?
Usually within 2 weeks but may vary. Longest I heard was 2 months (with positive results)
If you need to prepare, you can check the following guides:

Hi there,
First of all, congratulations on being invited to the McKinsey Imbellus (the problem solving game of McKinsey)!
This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:
- From the experience of coachees of mine and of my personal network, I can say that all applicants (both entry-level position and senior roles) had to take the McKinsey Imbellus.
- There might still be exceptions for singular offices or roles, but generally speaking it is a fixed component of the McKinsey recruiting process.
- In general, if the McKinsey Imbellus is a separate first step in the process, you will normally hear back within 1 week.
In case you want a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare the McKinsey Imbellus, please feel free to contact me directly.
I hope this helps,
Hagen
Congrats, you passed the screening! Now you're going to join the online game from McK. If you pass that, then you're going to move on to the interview rounds.
In terms of the results for the game, it can take anywhere between a couple of days and a month (there seems to be no consistent standard across geographies). My suggestion would be to send a message to the recruiter if you haven't received any info after three weeks from the test.
The best strategy for you now is to start preparing for the actual case studies. This will also help you sharpen your skills for the game. Best of luck and do drop me a message if you need any help or advice for the application process!
Hi there,
The general recruiting process in McKinsey is as follows with each step as a stage gate where you can continue or dropped off:
1) Online application or referral and CV screening
2) Imbellus game
3) First round of interviews
4) Second round of interviews
Decision / feedback times for each step are not written in stone and might vary across geographies. In any case, you will be guided on each step and receive proper communication on whether you pass the step or not.
I hope this helps!
Alberto
Hi there,
You've passed the first screening stage and are on to the second!
If you pass this game then you will be invited to first round interviews.
There's a lot of content already on the Preplounge Q&A about the Imbellus test, so feel free to dig around to understand more!
You can get the results within days or it could take weeks.
Hi!
The invitation criteria for the Solve Game are not always straightforward.
Once completed, you can expect an answer in a range between 2 days and 2 weeks. If successful, you'll then be contacted by HR to schedule your interviews.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Anto

If you were invited for PSG - you passed CV screening.
If someone was not invited - they didn't pass CV screening.
Imbellus results can take 1 to 4 weeks to come out - have patience once you give the test.
Your specific next steps will be informed to you by HR and will be highly dependent on your application, the office and the weather!
