McKinsey Problem Solving Game
Hi there,
1) What is the second game in McKinsey? I've heard that McKinsey changed their second game this year.
The second game is now the Redrock Study. It replaced Plant Defense at the end of February this year.
The game was tested in 2022 as well in some countries but had only 3 phases, while now there are 4 (the last one being about up to 10 cases).
2) Is there any news or guide I can rely on?
If you want to learn more about the new game, you can find at the link below the video simulation I created with:
- 23 videos where you can watch how to crack the Ecosystem game in less than 25 minutes (instead of the recommended 35) and prepare for the 4 Phases of the new Redrock Study (including the new section with up to 10 cases)
- Automated Excel with Formulas to build a food chain in the Ecosystem game in 13 minutes
- 152-page PDF guide with all 6 possible games and how to prepare for each of them
You can access immediately the video simulation at the following link:

If you have any questions about the game please drop me a message, I will reply within 12 hours.
Best,
Francesco
Hi there,
The best guide is MConsultingPrep. You can literally play the RedRock simulation (multiple versions, over and over).
McKinsey has been clever this time around.
While the previous games could just be practiced beforehand, this one (RedRock) is much more like the Bain SOVA or BCG Casey Chatbot - case-based GMAT-style questions with chart reading, math calcs etc.
Meaning, you can't “cheat” your way in here but rather have to go the “hard” route of truly learning how to think and break down problems.
Practice, practice, practice!
Hi there!
Yes, RedRock.
There are several guides available from other coaches and platforms that allow you to try the game.
However, if you have sufficient time until the game (couple of weeks), I'd recommend you work on actually developing the skills they assess for rather than try to ‘game’ the game.
The skills are the same that you're going to be tested for in the interview - th basic skills that consultants are expected to handle. You can read more about these here as well:
Best,
Cristian
Hello,
The second game is the RedRock study (which you do after EcoSystem). In terms of guides, Ive heard good things about MConsultingPrep's preparation materials and coach Francesco's resources from other candidates.
