McKinsey offer taking long time

Question

Hi all,

I have been interviewing for a knowledge analyst position, but the partner told me I will be given senior or higher due to my 8+ years of experience + masters degree. The recruiter and HR both approached me for salary breakdown and all including expected day to start and willingness to relocate, and was told I should expect the offer this week. Nothing yet however.

Could this mean it is taking longer because they are opening a new position for me? My issue is that I am starting a new job after 1 week and do not want to commit if I’m receiving a McKinsey offer.

It is difficult to guess the reason for the delay. I would recommend calling next Monday and explaining the situation to HR so that you can accelerate the process of signing the contract.

If they said they would extend an offer, I am confident they will do so. At the same time, I would not recommend rejecting the other offer before signing.

It is impossible, from the outside, to know what is really going on in that specific case. What you really need is to have an open and clear conversation with them so that you can manage your own expectations and understand what you have to do.
