McKinsey NGWL

I'm applying to McKinsey's Asia/Europe NGWL program.

They mentioned that this is not a recruitment drive but more for community building. Of course that won't be entirely true (you have to do SOLVE and get indoctrinated into a pipeline for sure), but wondered if being selected to attend can help application process after? Maybe from networking you could get a referral?

Any insight on this? And if someone has attended this in the past would be good to know your experience!

Hi there,

Yes, it can help.

1. You get a better understanding of the firm, how they work, how their recruitment process looks like. You get a sense of the vibe.

2. You having participanted in the event is something you can mention in the interviewer whenver you would have to explain your motivation around applying. It's something you've experienced as opposed to something you've read online about them.

3. You could get to know consultants and it could turn into a referral.

So all in all, lots of good reasons to attend.

Hi,

Yes, it can help. I’ve supported others through the NGWL process and can confirm a few things:

You're right: while McKinsey frames NGWL (Next Generation Women Leaders) as community-building, it absolutely feeds into the recruiting pipeline. If you perform well in SOLVE and engage actively, it signals strong potential and can lead to fast-tracked interview invites later.

  • Being selected is already a positive signal
  • You may get informal networking opportunities or referrals from consultants you meet
  • It won't guarantee an offer, but it gives you visibility and credibility early on

If you’re attending, engage, ask thoughtful questions, and follow up. Let me know if you’d like help with pre-event prep!

Best of luck!
