McKinsey LATAM

Hi!

I am currently a junior-level consultant at a Tier 2 firm in the U.S. Originally from Latin America, I would love to return home to continue working in consulting. I have attempted to network with consultants at McKinsey and BCG in my home country's office but haven't had any luck so far.

For reference, I have full work authorization in that country, speak the language fluently, and have one year of consulting experience in the U.S. I recently came across a junior-level position at that office and would love to apply. I also have the recruiter for that posting as a LinkedIn connection.

Would it be advisable to reach out to her directly? If so, what would be the best way to approach this? I appreciate any guidance you can provide—thank you in advance!

Hey!

Yes, great idea! Since you already have them as a LinkedIn connection, you can send a concise and polite message expressing your interest in the role. Keep it professional and to the point—mention your background (Tier 2 consulting in the U.S.), your connection to the region (native, fluent in the language, work authorization), and your enthusiasm for joining McKinsey in your home country. You could say something like:

"Hi XY, I hope you're doing well! I came across the [position name] opening at McKinsey [Country Office] and am very interested in applying. As a junior consultant at [Tier 2 Firm] in the U.S. with full work authorization and a deep connection to the region, I would love the opportunity to contribute. I’d really appreciate any insights into the process and would be happy to share more about my background. Looking forward to your thoughts!"

This keeps it warm and professional while making it easy for them to respond. Best of luck! 🚀

Ex-Mckinsey EM| Experienced round 1 interviewer | Free 15mins intro call | 50% off first session for limited time

Hi there,

LATAM hiring is relatively slow these days, which could be contributing to the slow/no responses situation. Could you DM me which office you are looking to move to? Each office is of a different situation right now, and in LATAM no matter which office you get in, the staffing could be quite transferrable. So another strategy is to reach out to a nearby office to expand the pool of people you can reach. I led a project with DR office before, and each person in the team came from a different country (E.g., Peru, Brazil, Chili, Columbia...)

Best,

Han
