MBB Target CGPA in Germany

Hi, i am engineering graduate with 3.75/4.00 from Asia. I have 5 years experience in engineering and project management. And doing Masters in Renewable Energy in Germany now (start of third semester). My current CGPA is 1.52/5.00 (1.00 is best in Germany). My questions are:

1. With my brief profile, should i apply for business analyst or associate positions.

2. Can i start applying for full time positions while in 3rd/4th semester, assuming that recruitment process takes time, and by the time process is completed, i will be near the completion.

3. Is 1.52 cgpa German (1.00 is best in Germany) good for MBB?

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on your career trajectory thus far!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your questions:

  • First of all, no one can seriously answer this question with this little information, especially since role titles are different from one consulting firm to another. However, given your work experience, I would advise you not to apply for the lowest role in consulting.
  • Moreover, of course, you can start applying for full-time positions while in university.
  • Lastly, generally speaking yes, however, what is way more important is your relative rank within your cohort.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hi there,

1. Given your work experience, ASC

2. You,you can!

3. Yes, however, it also depends on the prestige and brand of the university and program.

Your profile sounds interesting and you should go for it.

Two other considerations:

  • How's your German level? McK and BCG require C2, whereas Bain is a bit more lenient but it's still a big plus if you can speak the local language (many local clients)
  • Try to network to get referrals and intros to the right practices

Cheers,

Florian
