another country (e.g. Singapore)?

Hi,

  • When you apply to an MBB you will have the possibility to rank your 3 preferred locations. So you can apply to multiple countries in the same application
  • Your application will be sent to your 2nd choice only if you are rejected in the screening from your 1st choice
  • If you get through the screening and get rejected later in the process (i.e., after an interview), your application will not be sent to your 2nd choice (because interview requirements are supposed to be the same in every office)
  • That being said the usual ban period is 1 year and you will need to have an additional experience on your resume to prove that something has changed/improved (educational or professional)

Hi there,

If you apply at 2 offices, you would only be interviewed by one office.

If you get an offer, you will get it for that particular office.

If you are rejected, the ban applies globally (usually 12-18 months but focus for reapplication should then be a significant improvement in resume + a strong referral).

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your questions:

  • First of all, almost all major strategy consulting firms allow you to indicate your location preferences when you apply. In this sense, you can certainly apply in different countries.
  • Moreover, what is not possible, however, is to apply in one country right after being rejected in another. Application systems are typically global and you will have to wait 12-18 months of the ban period before reapplying.
  • Lastly, you should of course improve your profile during the ban period in order to have a chance of being invited when you reapply.

You can find more on this topic here: How to deal with a rejection from a consulting company.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hey there!

I can speak for McK: there you can apply to multiple countries, but they typically prefer you to focus on one region at a time. If you apply to a specific office, it's best to communicate with recruiters if you’re interested in multiple locations, as they often coordinate globally and can redirect applications based on fit. I know a mentee who was invited in Sweden and in Germany.

Regarding the "ban period," if your application is unsuccessful, MBB firms usually have a reapplication period of 12 to 18 months. However, this can vary slightly by firm and region, so it’s good to confirm specifics with the recruiting team.

Best, Alessa
