LSE or Imperial Business school

Dear all,

I studied Pharmacy at an undergraduate level and want to move into life science/ healthcare consulting or MBB. I have currently received MSc offers for Management from Imperial and LSE for Health economics and international health policy.

I understand the importance of the LSE brand but I feel like Imperial also has a great brand and the course would open more doors compared to the health economics and policy niche of LSE, especially in the middle east because I'm interested in pursuing employment there. Is choosing Imperial over LSE a good decision?  Thank you!

Hi there,

If your objective is to get into consulting, going for a course that has ‘Management’ in its title is definitely more helpful than one that doesn't.

In terms of brand perception, LSE and Imperial are at about the same level from my point of view.

Try to think which course is more aligned with your mid to long-term objective and choose that.

Best,
Cristian

Hi there,

Q: Is choosing Imperial over LSE a good decision?

It seems that course-wise you prefer Imperial.

In terms of the brand name in the Middle East for exits, you can check it as follows:

  1. Go to LinkedIn
  2. Add the two universities as "School"
  3. Filter by each target company you have as “Current company” and check the number of people working there
  4. Normalize the results for the cohort size of the schools

This should help to have a data-driven answer and make a decision.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there,

Congrats on 2 offers! Please remember that you can't go wrong here!

Look, in terms of name-brand, it varies by which each role/progression etc. However, in general, they are not too far apart. Importantly, you should consider this decision in paralell with everyhting else that matters.

LSE tends to be strong with economics, policy-making, etc. Imperial leans more towards your interests.

Good luck with the decision!

An unscientific perspective, certainly, but I have found, anecdotally, that in business circles in London, the LSE brand had an edge over Imperial but that this edge diminished in direct proportion to one's distance from London.

That was my perspective up till 2020. Post-COVID, I have been rather out of the loop.

That said, I hardly think the edge is sizeable enough to confer a meaningful advantage as applies to Consulting recruiting…no matter the distance from London.

Hello,

Congratulations on getting two fantastic offers! I personally don't think that LSE and Imperial differ greatly in terms of brand/prestige and opening doors, so I wouldn't weight this as a big consideration. I would go with the program you are generally more interested in.
