Kearney - how to make your application stand out

Hi everyone! I am applying to Kearney, and would like to get insights in how to make my application more successful, starting with the application phase. A little background: I am an MBA with 2 years of work post graduation. Previously my resume was selected in all MBB's for interviews, but now, also applying for Kearney I wonder if there's anything particular that should be highlighted.

Thank you!

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, apart from a few limitations, e.g. Kearney does not focus much on the financial services industry, I see no need to adjust your application files if they worked with MBB.
  • Moreover, please keep in mind to secure a strong referral from a consultant in the target office before applying.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hey! Good luck with the Kearney application—sounds like you're well-prepared given your background. In my experience, showing genuine appreciation for working with humble yet talented individuals in your cover letter is strongly appreciate it. I know a few people there across London, Germany, and the Middle East (some are  ex-colleagues), and they often mention how much Kearney values people who are collaborative and open to learning.

I’d suggest focusing on how you’ll bring value while being eager to learn from their team. That mix, plus your MBB shortlist, should make a strong case. Hope this helps!

Hi there,

If you have received MBB interview invites before with your resume, it should not be an issue with Kearney. However, keep in mind that there is a recruiting slowdown currently, which could affect your chances.

Hence, the two most impactful levers in your situation would be:

  1. Get a professional coach review and improve your resume
  2. Get a strong referral from inside Kearney (ideally partner level)

All the best,

Florian

A resume that works for MBB, works for Kearny.

The best way to stand out is applying through a referral. Build some connections, specially with senior consultants (partners). Get referrals from them. This will help to accelerate the screening process.
