Is private equity operation a good exit opportunity?
Is private equity operation a good exit opportunity?

Hi there,
This is indeed an interesting, very specific question, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:
- Generally speaking, it really depends on what your skills, preferences and career plans are. Without knowing any furrther, it is really hard to give a valid response to that. I would be more than happy to work with and help you identify all those aspects to come up with a playfield of options that would be most suitable for your next career step.
- For instance, in case you want to get a foot into the private equity space, it might be a good idea. However, keep in mind that private equity functions operate a lot in silos thus it would be hard for you to switch to the investment team from an operations role.
In case you want a more detailed discussion on what might be your most suitable next career step, please feel free to contact me directly.
I hope this helps,
Hagen

Hi,
Providing a perspective on this given that this was something I considered / interviewed for.
Pros
- Interesting work
- Opportunity to leverage your existing skillsets
- A lot of independence
- Good compensation
Cons
- Less transparent performance management
- Less defined career growth and trajectory
- Lack of resources/leverage
Happy to chat to anyone who is interested in this type of role - just drop me a dm

Yes, if that's what you want to do, there is a good fit and it lines up with your career aspirations, values & risk profile.
No, if you end up there just because its a popular path or others are going there.
Check out this Q&A thread for plenty of detailed discussion on related question:

Sure! But it depends on what you want.
You need to think about where you want to take your career. What do you enjoy doing? What are you good at? Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
Only you can decide whether this is a good exit for you.

Yes, depending on what you want to do, what the PE firm is, their project and their portfolio.
But the real question is whether it is a good opportunity for YOU.

Hi there,
Exits depend on your career goals.
You don't really have ‘good’ exits just on their own.
You need to think where you'd want to be in 10y from now and whether this exit is bringing you closer to that or not.
Best,
Cristian

Hi!
It is a great exit opportunity!
How do you feel about it?
Best,
Anto

Consulting (sell-side) to PE (buy-side) is a very well known path.
I would recommend to evaluate the pros and cons before making the decision.
You should try to find former consultants who are now in PE and reach out to them to understand their experience.
