Received an offer from Amazon (not Amazon Web Services. Just Amazon Shipping) in their business development internship role. I’m trying to get into consulting but so far have been rejected and don’t have high hopes. I’m confused whether this internship is worthwhile or shall I look for something else? From what I’ve seen, people say it’s not a good internship for your CV if you want to get into MBB/T2 and that it’s only really relevant if I just want to stay in Business Development. Also was told that no one really goes from Business Development to Consulting. My top career choice is purely consulting. I’m confused whether I should take it or just try to do some entrepreneurial activities/volunteering abroad?
Is Amazon Business Development internship good enough for MBB/T2?
Hi there,
A few thoughts:
It could be a worthwhile opportunity for a couple of reasons:
- Great brand
- Increasing specialization of consulting firms and demand for specific expertise (even for generalist roles)
- BizDev has some strategic aspects to it, depending on how the role is defined and set up
At the end of the day, it depends on the alternatives and volunteering or being abroad is inferior to an Amazon internship (purely based on CV screening criteria).
If you want to move into MBB, there are other factors as well such as your educational background, etc. Hard to provide a proper evaluation without knowing these components as well.
Cheers,
Florian
Hi there,
Q: My top career choice is purely consulting. I’m confused whether I should take it or just try to do some entrepreneurial activities/volunteering abroad?
Regarding whether you can move to consulting from Amazon in your region, you should be able to check it via LinkedIn.
Regarding whether it is the best alternative, it is difficult to judge without knowing the exact alternatives. In any case, using LinkedIn for the different options you are considering you should get a data-driven answer to that.
Good luck!
