Interviewing with McKinsey in a week but specific date and time has not been shared

Hi all,

I am currently in the interview process with McKinsey and my round 1 interview is supposed to be in the following week as per the date range shared by HR a month ago, which by the way, she shared the interview dates range and outcome date for each upcoming round. However, I have not yet been communicated the exact interview date and slot for interview. I wonder if this is usual or shall I be concerned. I understand that McKinsey employees keep very busy and wouldn't want to trouble the HR without reason. Please advise, thanks in advance.

Update: Thank you so much, all. With your advice I reached out to HR over email and by the end of the day they sent a couple slots to choose from for next week's interview. Hoping it all works out in my favor eventually.

Hi there,

Q: I have not yet been communicated the exact interview date and slot for interview. I wonder if this is usual or shall I be concerned

This should not be an issue and they should let you know a few days before the relevant week. If that’s not the case, you can follow up with HR (you can call them if you are very close to the deadline to speed up their reply).

Good luck!

Hi there,

With remote interviewing, this has somewhat become the norm as consultant interviewers have to send HR their availability on short notice to make sure it does not conflict with urgent client work or meetings.

I would reach out to HR 3 days in advance to clarify.

For your prep, please make sure to read these two articles and reach out for help!

All the best,

Florian

Hi there,

Do not worry, they have not forgotten you, so make sure you are prepared for the interview.
Leading up to the week, it is okay to email HR asking for a confirmation as they would have done it either way.

Goodluck on the interview and happy to offer anymore support!

Hi there,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about your negative experience with McKinsey!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • First of all, I would advise you to send a polite follow-up email to the recruiter, expressing your enthusiasm about the opportunity and politely inquiring about the specific date and time of your interview.
  • Moreover, prepare for your interview as if the date was already confirmed, so that you will be prepared no matter the precise date and time.
  • Lastly, try not to worry too much about the delay. Consulting firms often have many moving parts, and sometimes communication can be slower than expected.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

from your end, make sure you are prepared to have the interviews come the first day of that specified interval in case you get dealt the earliest slot possible. In general, you can expect to be notified of the exact date and times a few days prior. If you don't have an update by Tuesday of said week, I would try to follow up with them.

Good luck for your first round

Hi there!

Don't stress, please.

They will reach out to you typically a few days in advance.

If it gets close e.g., 2-3 days, then send them an email.

But no worries, they didn't forget about you.

Best,
Cristian

This is normal. Sometimes it is challenging to find slots in consultant's agendas to do interviews.

This is perfectly normal - but let them know in advance if you have any constraints.

Given that you have had successful progress on this matter now - do also note that recruiting processes in consulting firms are much more pro-candidate as compared to other firms/corporates. Especially in MBB - where you are supported in order to perform your best in the interview.
