I got a verbal offer but the written offer has taken more than 10 days, is this normal?

Hello

I got a verbal offer for a EM position in Mckinsey 10 days ago, however, I have not received the written offer. Last week the HR recruiter asked me about my compensation package and despite she told me yesterday that the offer was ready, she said that still is collecting all the signs. is this normal? I basically stopped other jobs processes because I know this is the best one, but now I feel worried since this has taken so long.

Hi there,

Nothing to worry about! Entering straight as EM is a bit unusual and maybe requires a bit more work on the HR side (my best guess, there could be many other reasons). A verbal offer is binding as far as McKinsey goes!

Congratulations and best of luck!

Hi there,

Congratulations on the offer.

If at McKinsey they confirmed verbally the offer you should be fine. I only heard one case of a consulting company making a verbal offer and then canceling it but (i) it was not MBB / Tier 2 and (ii) was right after COVID.

Having said that, I agree it is a bit strange that it is taking so long.

I don’t think you have to worry, but if you have still processes ongoing I would not terminate them until you have signed, just in case.

Best,

Francesco

Hi there,

This isn't “normal” but it's also not abnormal.

That said, you really should not have stopped other job processes. Until you have a written contract and both parties have signed, you should never make permanent moves (quitting your job, cancelling other interviews, etc.)

I have no doubt you will be just fine here (they are clearly just finalizing things). But, please learn from this!

Dont worry, you are fine :). There could be any number of things behind the scenes causing the delay. Give it a few more days and if not, give the HR contact a call.

Congrats and all the best!

Hello!

The verbal offer holds, and even more if they are telling you that they have things almost ready to send your way (vs. acting crazy and telling u that they are not sure, etc.)

However, feel free to follow up with HR and share those concerns regarding other processes to speed up things.

Congrats!!

Cheers,

Clara

Hey there,

Completely normal.

Consider that it's vacation season already with a lot of bank holidays in certain areas. People are just out of the office and it takes a while during such times.

Rest assured that if they made you an offer verbally, they will not withdraw it.

All the best!

Florian

Hey there -

Congrats on the offer! I would say that it is not abnormal. MBB tend not to rescind offers. They would probably honour it. However, 10 days to send the offer is quite strange. If I were you I would follow up with the HR person and give it a few days.
