First Interview - details request

Hi,

I have my first interview with McKinsey this Friday. They have emailed me some time ago to let me know that the interview is going to happen this Friday, yet I don't have any specific details such as timing, who is going to interview me etc.

What do you suggest?

  1. Reach out to them to ask for these details? If so, when should I do it? Should I want until tomorrow?
  2. Don't do anything about it, they will most probably contact me until Thursday.

Thanks a lot for the help.

Hi there and congrats on securing an interview with McKinsey!

I think there is no harm in reaching out to HR and saying something along the lines of “ … excited about the Friday interview. Could you please be so kind to let me know by when I could expect to have the time of the interview confirmed? …”

I assume you already know whether the interview is in person or via a videoconference. If unsure, this is something else to clarify.

From what I know, it is no longer common to get the names of the interviewers ahead - but this would depend on the company and the specific office.

Hope this helps,

Ariadna

Hi there,

There is 0 risk for you to ask about the scheduling at this point. It's rather bad form on their part if they can't communicate their interview schedules in time.

Send a quick email to your recruiting contact and ask.

All the best,

Florian

Hi there,

you should reach out to them to clarify the details. It shows that you are proactive and goal-oriented. If you were on a project as a consultant and you had a client meeting “tentatively” on the calendar but were missing any detail information, it would also be expected of you to follow up and clarify. So no need for concerns here.

They might not officially tell you the interviewer's name - as that could also still change on short notice based on availability. But they should at least send you dial-in information for the specific timeslot in case it is an online interview, or provide you with the necessary logistics info for an in person interview.

Best of luck

Hi there,

Q: They have emailed me some time ago to let me know that the interview is going to happen this Friday, yet I don't have any specific details. What do you suggest?

Given the interview is in two days, I would recommend calling HR to speed up the process – this way, you will have an answer right away and one less thing to think about.

Good luck!

Yes, you can wait.

It's a bit annoying when this happens because you feel like you're on your toes, but realistically speaking, it doesn't make a huge difference for you who will be interviewing you.

So do wait until Thursday and if you don't get an update by then, call the recruiter or email them.

Best of luck on Friday!

Yes, you can ask them about the schedule (don't ask about who's going to be interviewing).

Congrats on your interview invite.

There is no harm in requesting for details. You can email the recruiter and ask. I would suggest if your interview is on Friday to send an email on Wednesday or Thursday.

Thanks Ashwin
