Hi Daniela,

Bain & Company and McKinsey & Company do not adhere to fixed schedules for opening job vacancies in Colombia. Instead, they post positions as needed, contingent on business requirements and project demands. For example, Bain & Company announced openings for Associate Consultant and Associate Consultant Intern positions in Bogotá in July 2022.  Similarly, McKinsey & Company lists roles such as Analyst and Junior Associate in Bogotá, with postings appearing at various times.

To stay informed about upcoming opportunities:
    •    Regularly Check Careers Pages: Visit the careers sections of both firms’ websites for the latest job postings.
    •    Set Up Job Alerts: Utilize job alert features on these sites to receive notifications tailored to your interests.
    •    Network with Recruiters: Connect with recruiters or current employees on platforms like LinkedIn to gain insights into potential openings.
    •    Attend Recruiting Events: Participate in events or webinars hosted by these firms to learn about upcoming opportunities and application timelines.

Let me know if you need any further advice - happy to help!

Best,

Evelina

Ex- BCG Principal and Ex-Bain ex recruiting lead, with more than 200 cases given

Hi there,

Based on what I know from the current business in Latam, here is some information:

1. Mckinsey

They focus on the new offices in Central America (Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Dom. Rep), not Colombia or Peru for north Latam. There might be openings, but they are for junior-level positions such as analysts.

2. Bain.

They are not hiring in South America at any level. There might be case competitions, MBA interviews or a few slots for entry-level positions, but not more than that.

In sum, if you are looking for an entry-level position, yes, there will be a few slots (I counted on my hand). They should be posted in April or May if business goes well, otherwise September.

I suggest networking with recruiters or associates to let them know you are interested. There are always people changing jobs.

Best,

Carlos

Hey Daniela,

Have you considered reaching out to the local recruitment team on this? With the example of McKinsey, the recruiting teams will have a recruiting calendar and some offices may have specific target periods to open up recruiting for certain roles.

They will be able to give you the most accurate information over any of us speculating here

All the best

Hello there,

it depends on what you're aiming for: post graduate position or experienced hire? I'm excluding post MBA because you would knew it.
For the first, there is a fixed calendar for target schools, I suggest you to reach out to your campus recruiter, HR representative or a BA from Colombia (you can find them on LinkedIn). For the latest, positions are opened according to offices' needs and you can find these positions in their websites or LinkedIn. A referral may be needed in this case for your CV be evaluated.

Best,

Mari

Hi Daniela,

Unfortunately, it's an extremely tough market in the region right now.

The best actions at the moment would be to

  • contact HR and ask them directly for guidance
  • start networking with current consultants to a. have a referral when appliations open and b. get insights into the hiring demand

All the best,

Florian

Hey there 😊, after looking up Bain and McKinsey’s career pages, here’s what I found:

  • McKinsey in Colombia typically opens roles for Business Analysts, Associates, and Digital Specialists, with recruitment cycles depending on business needs. They regularly update openings, so checking their careers page frequently is a good idea.
  • Bain also recruits in Colombia, but vacancies might not always be posted openly. It’s best to connect with local recruiters or consultants to get insights on upcoming opportunities.
  • Both firms usually have structured campus recruiting for graduates and experienced hire opportunities throughout the year, though hiring can be affected by market conditions.

If you're looking to apply, keeping an eye on their job portals and networking with employees will help you stay ahead. Let me know if you need more guidance!

Best, Alessa 😇
