Capital Analytics Knowledge Analyst vs Implementation Role

How tough it is for someone to get into the consulting role from Knowledge Analyst role as a Non MBA.

Both the roles, Implementation associate and Knowledge analyst require 5+ years experience. However the salary difference is a lot. Implementation seems more client facing.

Would it come across wrong after the initial phone screening round, if I ask the recruiter to be considered for implementation role as well?

Hi there,

1) How tough it is for someone to get into the consulting role from Knowledge Analyst role as a Non MBA.

Not easy, based on my experience, as the jobs are quite different. I helped a candidate who managed the transition, but he did so after an MBA. The likelihood might also depend on the country.

2) Would it come across wrong after the initial phone screening round, if I ask the recruiter to be considered for implementation role as well?

Normally you can be considered for one position only at a given time. Thus I would define first the one more interesting to you and then apply for that.

Good luck!

Francesco

Country - United States As you mentioned above that it was after MBA. Does McKinsey help you with MBA if you plan to do so? Do they sponsor it? Any mentorship programs that one can enroll into while working as a Capital Analytical Knowledge Specialist ?

Hi there, in the case of my student, the MBA was not sponsored, but he was not from the US. Regarding the mentorship program, I would recommend reaching out to HR for that. Good luck!

Hi there,

You have nothing to lose by asking the recruiter. In fact, it's not uncommon in McKinsey for support analysts to make the move to the consulting track if they are motivated.

You might as well already ask before you start your application officially. :-)

Cheers,

Florian

Florian The recruiter replied and said I won’t be considered for the implementation role at the moment. Do you think it will be better for me to go through the interview process for the analyst role and take it from there? If I make it to McKinsey, there might be mentorship opportunity or MBA in the future to get into consulting.

Definitely! As I mentioned, once you are "in," you can continue work towards your goal and switch to the consulting track.

You have to chose the position you prefer. You won't be applying to 2 positions at the same time.
