McKinsey emailed me on 7th March saying I will hear back about my application by March 25, 2025. A few days after the email, my status changed from 'Submitted' to 'Submitted - In Progress.' However, I haven’t received an invitation to play Solve yet. Its 16th March already. Does this mean I’m likely to be rejected, or could I still get invited to Solve?

The offices I chose were: Karachi, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Hey there,

This just means someone is reviewing your application, no implication on what would be the status of it, so don't overthink about it!

Take this time to prepare (once the process kicks off there will be little breather!), and keep applying to more firms that you are interested in. You can also connect with people from these offices through LinkedIn or through your network connections to see how the hiring situation looks like. Some regions may be slower than others.

Good luck!

Han

Thankyou so much! I forgot to mention that my last Solve attempt was in November 2024. Could this be the reason I haven't received an invitation to play it again? Does this new information change anything?

yes, McKinsey has a policy that they will not interview same candidate for same position within 12 months, if I remember correctly

It was a different position last year. I hope it all works out. Thankyou so much

Hi there,

With the current economic situation it is not uncommon for candidate to wait longer than usual for feedback.

There is no need to wonder how to interpret the situation, because there are just so many factors out of your control. Focus on what you can. E.g., How is your readiness for interview? Do you have other interviews lining up? If so spend your energy on those. Or any other things on your plate that you have control.

Best,

Emily

Hey there,

In general, consulting firms are taking quite long to respond to applicants, and this often has nothing to do with candidates. So it's best not to speculate why they are taking long for now :-)

Further to that, you are still within the time period that they said they will respond to you by. It's only the 16th now, so give them until the 25th of March and then you can follow up with them afterwards if you haven't received any response.

So for now, don't take it as a rejection. Continue your preparation, and don't speculate too much about what these long timelines mean. There's still a possibility you could be invited to Solve, and until you've formally been notified of any recruiting outcome, don't assume any other outcome :-)

All the best

Hi there,

No it doesn’t mean you’ll be rejected, usually one would know in a clear manner if that was the case. I recommend you to reach out to HR to get a new approximate date for your test and until there, practice a lot :-)

Fingers crossed!

Best,

Mari

Hi there,

Q: Does this mean I’m likely to be rejected, or could I still get invited to Solve?

Based on what they shared, they should let you know by March 25th. I don’t think you can infer the outcome based on the fact they haven’t contacted you yet.

Good luck!

Hi! Indeed the score is valid for one year, therefore unless they inform you otherwise you won't have to retake the game. Hope this helps.

Hi there,

So far, no decision has been made as it's still before March 25. :-)

Keep prepping for the Solve and the interviews.

All the best,

Hey there 😊,

You’re still well within the timeline, so no need to panic yet! If McKinsey told you they’ll get back to you by March 25, then even though it's already March 16, it’s completely normal not to have received Solve yet.

The status “Submitted – In Progress” usually means your application is being reviewed, and you're still in consideration. Some candidates get Solve invites just a few days before the deadline, depending on the office and internal coordination. Also, the offices you selected—Karachi, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai—sometimes process applications a bit slower due to volume and joint regional screening.

So yes, you could still be invited to Solve, and silence right now doesn’t necessarily mean a rejection 😊

If you want to prepare just in case, I’d be happy to support you with Solve strategy or practice!

Best, Alessa 😇

It means they started reviewing your application, may have ended or not, but in any case you will not hear before the 25th March.

Usually you need to wait 6 months to retake the test (if you did not pass). Otherwise, if you passed, they will consider the previous test result.

For some reasons they never sent me my results for Solve. But Thankyou so much!
