Hi Ana Jimena,

First of all, congratulations on the invitation from Bain!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • Generally speaking, the Bain Sova pre-interview assessment is very similar to the reasoning section of the GMAT, even if, of course, not the same. You will be required to solve numerical, verbal, and abstract reasoning exercises, as well as complete a psychometric personality test.
  • Therefore, I would highly advise you to familiarize yourself with the format and types of questions and utilize any practice materials or mock tests that might be available. Since it is very similar to the GMAT, official GMAT preparation material should suffice if you cannot find any old Bain Sova tests.
  • For the personality test, I would advise you to carefully consider the personality traits being tested and how they would be desirable in a (Bain) consultant. This might guide you in answering the questions.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for the Bain Sova pre-interview assessment and/or your upcoming Bain interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hey there! I would advise you to do the following:

  1. Understand the Format: The test includes situational judgment and video-based questions where you respond to business scenarios on camera. Practice answering questions clearly and concisely within the given time limits.
  2. Align with Bain’s Values: Bain values collaboration, client impact, and results-driven approaches. Research these values and ensure your responses reflect teamwork, leadership, and effective problem-solving, which are key in Bain's culture.
  3. Practice Situational Judgment Tests (SJTs): Use online resources to practice SJTs and improve your ability to assess business situations, prioritize actions, and make thoughtful decisions—skills Bain will be evaluating.
  4. Prepare for Video Responses: Record yourself answering typical interview questions (e.g., handling conflict, problem-solving). Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure responses, and ensure your body language and tone project confidence and professionalism.
  5. Seek Insights from Former Test-Takers: Reach out to people who have previously taken Bain's SOVA test. They can provide valuable insights, tips, and advice on what to expect and how to best prepare for the assessment.

By understanding the test format, aligning with Bain’s values, practicing SJTs, preparing for video responses, and learning from past test-takers, you'll be well-equipped to excel in Bain's SOVA test.

Best, Alessa :)

Hi there,

There are plenty of free and paid guides and question banks out there that replicate the test and its questions.

Generally, you need to

  • Understand what the test is about
  • The question types that are included
  • How to approach each type
  • Practice, practice, practice for speed and accuracy
  • Learn about test-taking best practices

Reach out for more info as I have created a guide with practice tests.

Kind regards,

Florian
