I just received a CV screen round rejection from Bain London. I have an undergrad degree from a top ivy league school (>3.8 gpa), first class master's from oxbridge, and also applied with a referral from a current bain employee. i thought i was at least going to get a first round interview so i'm a little bit confused here. what could be some potentials reasons for rejection for this round?
Bain CV Screen Rejection
Hi there,
Sorry to hear!
Potential reasons based on the information you have provided (some is guesswork):
- Missing relevant work experience
- Missing extracurricular and leadership experience
- A potential previous failed application
- Low hiring demand currently (this is definitely the case)
- Applied at the wrong time outside of recruiting windows leading to an auto-rejection
All the best,
Florian
Hi there,
First of all, I am sorry to hear about the rejection from Bain!
I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:
- First of all, unfortunately, no one can seriously answer the question of what the candidate- and/or firm-related reason(s) of your rejection are.
- Moreover, unfortunately, you will most likely not find out when asking the recruiter.
- Lastly, I would highly advise you to to focus on other consulting firms instead.
You can find more on this topic here: How to deal with a rejection from a consulting company.

Hi there,
I’m really sorry to hear this!
Here are a few possible reasons:
- Framing of points on the CV: Make sure each point clearly highlights the quantified impact of your work. I’ve seen this often—people have strong achievements but struggle to present them effectively on their CV.
- Balanced CV: Academics is just one part of the story. It's important to showcase other aspects like work experience, internships, leadership roles, extracurricular activities, and projects.
- Hiring cycle and demand: The overall hiring demand at the time also plays a significant role.
There are other reasons as well, but these are the most common ones that I've seen.
I hope this helps! Feel free to reach out if you'd like more personalized support with your CV.
All the best!
Hi there,
Did you get to the digital round? Or were you rejected right after sending in a CV?
Yeah got the same rejection letter today.
I think the hiring demand is pretty low this year. There was news saying they offered some consultants in their London office the option to depart with six-month pay or transfer to locations such as Johannesburg or Sydney.
