Are pre-MBA programs worth applying to?

I’m an international with an admit to a top US business school. Thinking of applying to pre-MBA programs like ExperienceBain, and diversity-focused programs like BASE.

Are these programs open to internationals (I am Hispanic, but not a US citizen)? Are they hard to get into? Are they worth applying (aka make it much easier to get a summer internship afterwards? Would I have to travel to the US to attend them on my own dime?

“Everything” it worth applying to if you're interested. The only cost is time. Wish is worth it if you're chasing something you want.

If you don't apply, youi'll never know.

That said, if you're not American, don't have working rights, and don't have ties to America, your odds are pretty long…because they won't want to/be able to hire full time.

Think about it, if you were them, woudl you hire you over all the American candidates?

If you get into the program and they need you on the ground, then yes, you do have to travel to the US and pay for your own accomodation, etc. Of course, they'll still pay you for your time.

The question isn’t about doing an MBA or not, it’s about pre-MBA programs like ExperienceBain, Bain BASE or BCG Empower.

Hi there!

These programs are a great opportunity.

Needless to say, they don't guarantee you the job, or even passing screening, but they help you develop a better understanding of the firm and the recruitment process and thus increase your chances of finally getting an offer.

In your case, you could theoretically apply for them since you'll be studying in the US. I would reach out to the recruiters from the specific firms beforehand to make sure that you are eligible and to discuss how costs will be covered (if at all).

Lastly, yes, you do need a strong application for them since they tend to be quite competitive. Specifically, make sure you have a great CV that has received professional feedback. You can then use a revised version of that same CV when you apply for full-time roles later on.

Best,
Cristian

Personally, I think if you can afford to its always great to go to these programs. They help you build a relationship with the firm, network with senior people and meet peers who can become your case buddied when you apply. It's generally a very fun experience.

Hi there,

I believe they are definitely worth it as they provide you with mentorship, connections, and often the guarantee to receive an interview invitation (mileage varies per country, firm, and program). Some of the things you could also leverage for other opportunities.

There are no downsides to get into one of the programs, yet they are very competitive!

Cheers,

Florian
