Anyone here have experience as Delivery Consultant at Mckinsey?

Hello,

I am struggling to find information on what it is like to work as a Delivery Consultant at Mckinsey. I understand this is different to the typical analyst roles and is a more specialised role (e.g. Public Sector, Healthcare or Private sector).

Could anyone offer insight into what a week in the role may be like? How much on site work is there, what kind of work would you take on etc.

Any insights are much appreciated!! Particularly from London office perspective.

Β

Thank you!

Hello there,

This is an implementation-focused role, similar to the generalist consulting one, but more focused on the last part of the project, considering 1) IDP [opportunities' evaluation and initiative generation], 2) BUP [testing the backlog's feasibility, filtering for final list] and 3) the actual implementation of the selected initiatives.

Best,
Mari

Expect as much travel as you would as a regular consultant. Regarding work schedule, should be less intense that the generalist consultant.

Hi there,

Mariana already provided some good points.

I just wanted to add that work/travel schedule and lifestyle is comparable to generalist consultants.

Cheers,

Hey there 😊,

You're rightβ€”the Delivery Consultant role at McKinsey is quite different from the typical generalist path. It's part of McKinsey Implementation (MI) or specific capability tracks, often within public sector or healthcare transformation programs.

πŸ’Ό What the role looks like (especially in London):

– You’re involved in longer-term client engagements, typically helping to implement strategy that’s been developed by generalists
– Work is often on-site 3–4 days/week, especially with public sector clients, and very hands-on with client teams
– You’ll focus on execution, stakeholder management, performance tracking, and capability building, rather than slide-heavy problem solving

⏰ A typical week may include:

– Workshops or trainings with client teams
– Coaching managers or frontline staff
– Reviewing KPIs and progress against targets
– Collaborating closely with internal teams from MI and generalist consultants

You still get the McKinsey development + training environment, but it’s more about driving change on the ground, not just advising it.

Let me know if you want to dive deeper into how to position yourself for the role or transition from it laterβ€”I’d be happy to support 😊

Best,
Alessa πŸ˜‡
