Advice to succeed on RedRock McKinsey Solve?

Hi,

I’m taking the McKinsey Solve game soon and frankly I’m panicking a little about Redrock.

I have been practicing the redrock game on a simulation, have done it a few times now and I barely have time to finish all of the 10 questions for the mini cases, most often not finishing the full game.  does anyone have any tips to manage time in this game? What would be an ideal time allocation between part 1 and part 2? Lastly, what type of math/ concepts/ general formulas do you think I need to be skilled in to move more swiftly along the second part?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

Redrock is honestly tough - I'm glad they changed the other games to Redrock as this one can't really be hacked/cheated on…you have to actually have consultant skills!

Honestly, if you're truly panicking AND have already practiced, get a coach.

I also really like MConsultingPrep's simulations and Francesco's guide if you haven't used them yet.

It's hard to advise you on exactly how to improve unless I can actually speak with you and identify the root cause/issue

Hi there,

1) Does anyone have any tips to manage time in this game? What would be an ideal time allocation between part 1 and part 2?

Please note that in the last version of the Redrock there are 6 cases at the end instead of 10 (you can see the number at the beginning of the game).

I would recommend allocating 2 minutes per case (1.5 might also be enough, but it depends on your personal skills). So between 12 and 20 minutes for the case section, depending on the number of cases, and the rest for the initial part.

2) Lastly, what type of math/ concepts/ general formulas do you think I need to be skilled in to move more swiftly along the second part?

Possibly the simulation you used provided already an overview of that. For more information, please feel free to PM me and I can recommend something based on what you practiced already.

Best,

Francesco

First of all, everybody has these complaints about RedRock. Which means that everybody has a similar struggle with it. So they will be equally affected.

If it's within your means, try getting one of the game simulation packs from some of the coaches or other platforms.

Some of these guides include specific techniques.

Alternatively, there are some free videos on youtube about the game and what to expect.

In general, as long as you've been practicing for the actual case study, the test should appear relatively easy.

Best,
Cristian
