1.5 square fields - what does that mean?

In calculating the floating wind area, the case solution shows:

20,000 squared fields (half) + 40,000 squared fields (one) = 60,000km^2 

I'm not sure I understand how these numbers were derived - please explain?

  • In the second exhibit, it shows in the bottom right corner that one square field is 200km x 200km = 40,000km^2. Therefore, 1.5 square fields are 40,000km^2 x 1.5 = 60,000km^2.

Hi Snehit,

One square field in the exhibit measures 200x200 km, thus 40,000 km². The estimate in this case is that the total area for floating wind is 1.5 square fields, therefore 40,000 + 20,000 = 60,000 km².
