Recovering from a bad performance review in my first finance job. Any tips?

I recently received my first performance review in my new finance job, and it wasn’t as positive as I had hoped. The feedback highlighted a few areas where I’m struggling, and I’m feeling pretty discouraged because I really want to succeed in this role. How can I bounce back from a negative review and turn things around? What’s the best way to approach my manager about setting goals or getting additional support? If anyone has been through something similar (doesn't have to be finance roles specifically), I’d really appreciate your advice on how to improve and move forward.

Great question! Receiving a bad review is tough, but it's also an opportunity to knock it out of the park in the next cycle and to accelerate your development. There are a few things that are important to keep in mind:
1. Keep your chin up. Everyone gets a bad review at some point.

2. Communicate regularly and clearly. Set up monthly 1:1s with your boss to get feedback on what exactly is going wrong and pick their brain on how to improve.

3. Align actions with goals. Keep your goals front and center and think through every day how to align the actions with them.

Obviously there are 10,000 more things we could say about this one so please grab a free intro call and let's learn more about your feedback and how you can recover from it!
