QuantumBlack Data Scientist Final Round

Hi, I have my final round of PEI + Case with a QB Partner next week. Does anyone have any insights on the nature of this case interview? Will lean more towards data science problem-solving, or take the form of a general business case? Unfortunately, my recruiter seems to be on leave till next week, so reaching out to them isn't an option as of now.

Hi there,

Congrats on approaching the final round!

Based on what I know, they are likely to lean towards more data science PS, rather than a generic business case. Still, it will be approached from a business angle. They are not going to ask you to do any conding, needless to say.

One thing you can do is try to message of few juniors who are now at QB and tell them exactly what you told us (i.e., the recruiter is away and you can't ask them directly) and I'm sure some would be willing to share the focus of the interview (without having to share the actual content).

Best,
Cristian

Hi,

Congrats on reaching the final round — that’s a great achievement!

In QuantumBlack final rounds, the case is usually a hybrid: it follows a general business case format, but the interviewer may incorporate data-heavy or analytics-driven elements, especially if you're applying for a Data Scientist role.

Expect:

  • A structured business case (profitability, operations, market entry, etc.) with emphasis on how you’d use data to solve the problem
  • Questions around modeling approaches, data availability, or analytical frameworks — not coding, but high-level thinking
  • A PEI portion that focuses on ownership, problem-solving, and impact, possibly tailored to technical projects

Focus on clear communication, top-down structuring, and showing how you think analytically even in a business context. You've got this — good luck!

The QuantumBlack interview process includes two types of interviews: TEI (technical) and problem solving.

In your case, it sounds like you’ll be doing a regular case interview in the second round.

You’ll need to demonstrate structured thinking, solid business understanding, and strong quantitative skills.

Happy to help you prepare—just drop me a message.

Best,

Alberto

Hey there,

McKinsey has a different case library for Data Science candidates with more technical questions than from its general pool. So you could expect to solve a problem whilst showing your technical approaches in this.

All the best!
