Hi there,

Yes, all of these programs help.

There's no advantage in the recruitment process as a consequence of you participating in them, but by joining them, you:

  • get a better understanding of the consulting job and lifestyle
  • get to practice cases with consultants in workshop-type formats
  • get to meet other candidates who could become case practice buddies

Sharing below a few articles that might help consolidate your understanding of the industry:

Best,
Cristian

Thank you for your input. What about the BCG program Future Shaper? Is that one helping my cv aswell or not really?

There are significant differences in these programs between regions so it's hard to tell how it will help you specifically. What's obvious is that it's better to be part of it than not. If you can join something like this, definitely do it because it will enhance your understanding of the industry and the recruitment process

Hello,

Yes to both! These programs tend to be helpful in terms of giving you knowledge about working as a consultant, advice on your application and interviews, providing an opportunity to develop a network with the firms and to show your interest, and ultimately act as an initial screener of your resume. If you are interested in joining MBB and have an opportunity to attend one of those programs, I definitely recommend applying!

Thank you for your input Sofia. Would you also recommend putting them on your LinkedIn/CV for different Consulting firms? I imagine that that might seem mildy out of place because you have openly shown interest in a different firm than the one you applied to. So do you think its a good idea to put it in on LinkedIn or on your resume in general?

Yes, I think you can put them on your resume and LinkedIn! Consulting companies know that candidates will be applying to many different places, so there's no disadvantage in terms of having a "competitor name" on your resume.

Hi there,

The short answer is that you should be very excited/happy to get accepted into these. And they are opportunities you should puruse if accepted (and interested in MBB).

1. gain knowledge/skills etc.

Yes, but also depends on what you make of it

2. get internships at the respective consultancies or at other firms in the consulting industry in general.

Yes.

Thank you for your help. Though i do have 2 more questions regarding this topic: 1. How selective are the programs? Is it possible for anyone at a decent university to get into them or are they actually declining a decent amount of applicants? 2. Couldnt these programs shine a bad light on your cv if you applied to OW f.e. even thought you have been part of the mckinsey firsthand program? Thanks in advance for your help/reply :)
