Hireright background check

I made a mistake about an internship date and inputted that I started it in October and ended it in October on hireright form and also on the hiring company website. however, the exact dates are 12th september to 14th of October. In my resume, I only wrote October beside my internship title. I don’t know whether I should contact someone. Will this cause me problems? Will the hiring company (it’s a very famous one) consider it as dishonesty?

Hi there,

Would not worry too much about it in this exact scenario.

Normally, as long as the inaccuracy is limited (e.g. you state correct duration, but had a typo on the actual time frame), should not be a major issue.

It normally would only become an issue, if you tried to over-play the duration substantially or tried deceive the employer in other ways to boost your chances to get through screening (e.g. faking an internship to pass screening).

Hope this helps - feel free to reach out, if you have further questions.

Regards, Andi

Hi there,

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • From my perspective, there is absolutely no need to worry since you did not maliciously falsify anything.
  • If anything, they will ask you to justify your actions, which you have already done very comprehensively here.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

Congratulations on the offer! In terms of your question:

Q: I made a mistake about an internship date. Will this cause me problems? Will the hiring company (it’s a very famous one) consider it as dishonesty?

It seems the length of the experience is the same and you just made a small mistake with the dates with the correct information on your CV. This should not be a problem, if needed they will reach out and you can clarify.

Best,

Francesco

Dear applicants,

It should be no problem at all. Simply outshine in your interviews and don't mentiin it, unless you prefer to bring it up, then you can send a corrected CV. Best regards,

It sounds like a very minor thing. It doesn't change the fact that you actually went through the internship experience and also were there in October of that year.

If you got an offer, it will not be rescinded because of something like this. It's not like you claimed you graduated from a certain university but did not even attend.

Good luck

Hi there,

It should be ok. If you are concerned you can reach out and let them know you have just realized a mistake you made. That said, I personally wouldn't do anything. If there is any sort of issue, they will check.

Ultimately, they care if you lie about a role or company or degree. (As in, you didn't even work/school there). They don't care if you're a month off.

Hi there,

Don't worry about this.

Companies almost never withdraw offers based on background checks unless you purposefully lied to them. This is clearly a small confusion regarding the date.

Best,

Cristian

It should not be a problem. It's minor, it doesn't really seem to be inflating your resume (quite the opposite) and in any case, if they have any issues with inconsistencies, they will reach out to you to clarify. Given that this is minor, I don't expect them to do it, but if they do, it doesn't seem like a big deal.
