BCG Internship Interview Preparation in 7 Days - Taipei

Hello everyone,

I applied for BCG's internship and somehow passed the online case assessment, then received an invitation for a 20-minute online interview.

They said the interview will have two parts: personal backgrounds and business questions (which I assume would be some market size or brainteaser questions).

I barely know anything about case interview. In fact, I only studied some basics about case interview, including typical case types, commonly used frameworks and tips to answer personal fit questions. I know it's a bit too late to try and get the offer in such a short time, but I still wonder if there's any better way to prepare for it.

Thank you!

Hi Jack,

congrats on getting the invite to the online interview! That's a good sign!

Since the interview is only 20 minutes, don’t expect a full case. It will likely be two parts: your background and motivation for BCG/consulting, and a short business question (market sizing, estimation, or brainteaser).

How I would use the 7 days to prepare:

Personal fit: Craft a clear 1–2 minute intro (“who you are, why consulting, why BCG”) and prepare a few short stories about teamwork, leadership, or problem-solving (use STAR Method).

Business questions: Practice structuring your thoughts out loud. For market sizing, break it into logical steps. You can practice this based on everyday examples like the size of the Taipei coffee market, annual revenue of Uber in Taiwan, or number of restaurants in your city. For brainteasers, focus less on the “right” answer and more on showing logical, calm reasoning.

Also if you feel you need more time, it’s generally fine to ask HR to push the interview back a week or two.

Reach out to me directly if you want to further discuss!

Best,
Lukas

Hi Jack,

Congratulations for passing the online case! This must be exciting!

If you have no experience, 7 days is indeed short, but not impossible. As Lukas suggested, if you can push the interview by few weeks, that would be great. In any case, you should start preparing every day with a clear plan (fit, market sizing, frameworks..) and practice as much as possible with different peers/coaches.

You're on the right track, just push harder these next few days!

Happy to have a free intro call to help you tailor your approach and preparation, let me know

Best,

Hi Jack,

Given you only have 7 days, focus on the highest-impact preparation:

1. Personal Fit (about half the interview)

  • Prepare 2–3 clear stories on leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving. Keep them structured (Situation–Task–Action–Result).
  • Be ready to answer “Why consulting?” and “Why BCG?” concisely.

2. Business Questions (likely short cases/market sizing)

  • Practice quick market sizing: e.g., “Estimate the size of the coffee market in Taipei.” Focus on logical structure, assumptions, and doing math cleanly.
  • Review profitability questions (revenues vs. costs) and simple growth/market-entry logic.
  • Don’t worry about memorizing frameworks – focus on clear, MECE structuring.

3. Math & Communication

  • Drill basic mental math daily (percentages, multiplications, dividing large numbers).
  • Practice talking through your thinking step by step, even when you’re unsure. Interviewers want to see structured thinking, not the perfect answer.

4. Practice under time pressure

  • Use PrepLounge or YouTube to practice 2–3 mini cases per day. Even short runs will build confidence.
  • If possible, do at least 2 mock interviews with a friend / coach – have them throw you market sizing or brainteasers.

Mindset

  • Don’t worry about being perfect – BCG knows interns are early in their journey. They look for logical thinking, curiosity, and coachability, not polished consulting answers.

With one week, you can’t cover everything, but you can show structure, confidence, and a sharp learning attitude – which is often enough to stand out.

Happy to help you prep and succeed – feel free to reach out!

Best,

Evelina

Hi Jack,

I'm assuming that you are aware of how the personal portion goes - it's similar to any other interview where you prepare a few stories about yourself and why BCG interests you.

For the case interview portion, I'd practice solving brain teasers, market sizing questions, and doing hand-math calculations out loud (ideally with someone). It takes practice to get used to walking someone through your thinking and calculations in a clear manner.

Good luck!

Hey Jack :)

With just a week, focus on the basics that will make the biggest difference. For the personal part, prepare two to three clear stories (leadership, teamwork, challenge) and practice telling them concisely. For the business part, don’t try to learn every framework, instead practice structuring your thinking clearly: break problems into a few logical buckets and walk the interviewer through your reasoning step by step. Do a few quick drills on market sizing (e.g. “How many coffee cups are sold in Taipei per day”) and simple profitability breakdowns. Even with limited prep, showing clear, logical thinking and good communication can get you through.

best, Alessa :)

Hi Jack,

First of all, congratulations on the progress in the application process with BCG thus far!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • First of all, if you’ve only done basic preparation thus far, I would strongly advise you to contact the recruiter as soon as possible to request a postponement. BCG, like all other consulting firms, is usually flexible if asked early enough.
  • Moreover, I would advise you to consider working with an experienced coach like me to receive the acceleration you need in order to have a realistic chance of success.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming BCG interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen
